Biography:
Chris is a native TEXAN - born and raised in Austin. Chris
began his real estate career while attending UTA in 1969
performing odd jobs, painting, changing locks, moving
furniture (back when furnished apartments were offered!)
and cleaning several swimming pools for several apartment
complexes located in Arlington.
Moving
to Houston in 1971 Chris continued his involvement in the
real estate management industry serving as an on-site
maintenance man for a 32 and 47 unit apartment complex
which involved performing virtually all needed general
maintenance for these family complexes. This experience
led to a position as a maintenance supervisor over a
portfolio of local properties (1,500 units) wherein he
assisted the regional manager in all
management/maintenance functions.
Chris
continued this experience with another local Houston firm
that included responsibilities over several commercial
properties and was instrumental in creating a condominium
and homeowner's association management division that
remains in business in Houston today and is one of the
leading firms providing such services for several thousand
condominium units.
During
this experience Chris began his professional education in
real estate and earned his real estate sales license in
the mid 70's and subsequently earned a real estate
broker's license through the TREC and remains one today.
He also began taking courses to qualify for the CPM
designation—Certified Property Manager—a professional
designation awarded by the Institute of Real Estate
Management and received the designation—Key # 7327—in
1980. There are some 20,000 CPMs worldwide—but only 2 or 3
in the Denton area. He also began teaching management and
maintenance courses for the Houston Apartment Association
and the Houston chapter of the Community Associations
Institute as well as being very active in and serving on
many committees and in many capacities of both those
organizations.
Moving
forward Chris served in capacities as Texas Regional VP
over a large portfolio of apartment properties (5,000
units) and commercial properties (500,000 SF) for an out
of state asset management company and as department head
overseeing approximately 750 residential, small commercial
and small land tracts statewide for a major Texas S&L in
the mid 80's and an additional assignment as a
multi-family asset manager over 2,500 apartment units
located in several different states (central & eastern
time zones) for a national S&L.
With
the Texas S&L crisis came the formation of the RTC—Resolution
Trust Corp (a division of the FDIC). Chris was one of the
earliest employees of the RTC in Houston in 1989 and
served in a variety of capacities during a 6 year stint
including property management, asset management
responsibilities over varied real estate portfolios with
values in the several hundred million $ range as well as
an investigator and a department head overseeing hundreds
of audits and investigations of irregularities of
contractors providing services to the RTC.
With
the closure of the RTC Chris returned to the private
sector to practice real estate with Century 21 in Denton
providing professional quality real estate management and
real estate sales services to area residents and
investors.
Desiring to be more involved in the local commercial real
estate arena—and more freedom to pursue real estate in the
area - Chris joined forces with Scott Brown & Scott Brown
Properties at the outset of the formation of Real T Team
to provide professional quality real estate sales, leasing
and management services for residential, retail,
commercial, farms and ranches, multi-family properties,
homeowner associations and land tracts. Chris has
contributed to the growth, success & formation of both
Scott Brown Commercial and Real T Team. He currently is
involved in general management of day to day operations of
Real T Team (10 offices, 75+ agents) and Scott Brown
Commercial (2 offices, 10 agents) as well as his expertise
in the property management division of Scott Brown
Commercial and marketing of a large portfolio of
commercial properties for sale and lease. Today – Scott
Brown Commercial is the largest commercial real estate
brokerage firm in Denton County with over $300 million
worth of property listed for sale, lease and/or management
in their portfolio.
Chris
lives in Denton and has three grown children, is involved
in many area church, community and civic functions. He
currently serves as President of Board of Directors of
the Greater Denton Wise County Association of REALTORS for
2008 as well as being active in the Denton and Argyle
Chambers of Commerce, Kiwanis, the Texas Association of
REALTORS, the National Association of REALTORS and the
North Texas Commercial Association of REALTORS. |
